Hutton Guitars
Paul Hutton, Luthier
Materials & Options:

Wood:
I use only premium, knot free material in Hutton Guitars. All wood is kiln dried. Torrified wood is used for necks and if requested, for bodies. Torrification or ‘roasting’ is a special kiln process that reduces moisture content, stabilizes and ‘ages’ the wood.
Body wood can be alder, mahogany, swamp ash, pine or sitka spruce.
Neck wood is usually quarter sawn and 'roasted', primarily maple and occasionally mahogany.
Fingerboards can be ebony, maple or rosewood. Double acting truss rods are used in necks. Fret wire is by Jescar or Dunlop, nickel silver or stainless. Tusq or bone nuts are used according to preference.
Hardware:
Pots and switches are Switchcraft, Oak Grigsby, Fender or CRL.

Pickups:
Pickups are the buyers choice. I have used Fender, Fender Custom Shop, Seymour Duncan, Lollar, Suhr, Klein, Fralin, Kinman and Lace pickups, both humbucking and single coil. I am familiar with the 'voice' of different pickups and can recommend certain pickups depending on the style and type of music preferred.

Finish:
Guitars are finished in nitrocellulose or water based lacquer or polyurethane. Nitro will soon be discontinued due to the toxicity of the material. Updates to follow.

Process:
All my guitars are made from high grade raw lumber in my shop. There is no outsourcing; no aftermarket or premade necks or bodies are used. Each neck is shaped by hand and precisely matched to the body. All finishing, soldering and set-ups are done in house so that I can control every aspect of the finished product.

Custom orders can specify neck profile, thickness, fret size and fret board radius.

Completed Stratocaster or telecaster style Hutton guitars average about 7 to 8 pounds in weight.
